Join the #PledgetoDoubleCheck Movement

December 19, 2020

I am sure you will all agree when I say that our family, most importantly, our kids are the special treasures we have and with that, we only want what is best for them. We make sure that we give the best options for them materially and this is especially true in terms of the food and drinks they consume.

However, with the goal of making them happy with their favorite refreshments, desserts and snacks, are you really sure that they are nutritious for your little ones? Beware mommies, do not put your guard down and don’t be complacent because it’s not enough that we buy products having popular names. There might be red flags that you don’t see in the usual products that you buy.

I must admit that often times, I forget to check the label of products I buy. I fall into the trap of getting what looks enticing and tempting in the grocery. I also easily say yes to my children's fave snacks and simply buying what they want. But lately, I started the habit of checking the labels and I got so surprised that some products I bought are, unfortunately, not so healthy or not healthy at all.

Just because we see our kids are enjoying their usual snacks and drinks doesn’t mean that our job is done, because as important it is to give them what they want, it’s even more important to give them what they need. As wise moms, we should check what ingredients are in the snacks and drinks that we serve to our kids. Is there too much sugar? Too many artificial ingredients?

Remember, giving what’s best to our children is not only about providing tasty snacks and beverages –but rather, about providing them with snacks and drinks that will nourish them and keep them healthy.

The #PledgeToDoubleCheck Movement
Guilty? It’s never too late to break the habit of buying whatever is pleasing to the eyes and what is popular. Good thing, All Natural Seasons Juice by Dole have started the mommy movement #PledgeToDoubleCheck that advocates for smarter and wiser grocery shopping.

The #PledgeToDoubleCheck movement is a call to be more conscious about your grocery shopping habits and to inform and properly educate yourself about the ingredients of the products you are buying. The lesser ingredients they contain, the more natural they probably are, hence, a healthier and safer product for the family. We may think that the current products that we are purchasing are already “healthy” but upon checking their ingredients lists, you might be shocked to find that they contain chemically-sounding, artificial additives and preservatives to add a more flavorful taste.

Warning!
Mommies, do note that when there are too many ingredients (more than 10) and are a bit complicated or hard to understand, it could be a sign that the product contains a lot of artificial ingredients that are not advisable to be consumed in large amounts regularly so you might want to reconsider buying it.

Through pledging to check the label, you are committing towards being more aware on which brands to put your trust in and assessing which are true to their claim of being a healthy product. You will be shocked to discover that the products you have patronized and have made staple food items at home contain ingredients that may result to health complications.

For drinks and snacks, I discovered that the use of all natural ingredients is the best option and to make sure that I choose the "right" option, I really made a #pledgetodoublecheck the label every time I buy products.

Moms Supporting this Movement
It is so good to know well-known celebrity mommies like Jolina Magdangal, Neri Miranda and Pokwang, together with some sought-after mommy bloggers such as Pehpot Pineda, and Peachy Adarne have spearheaded this movement of breaking the bad habit of not checking the label and starting to read and scrutinize the contents of the food and drinks that they buy.

Other mommies nationwide who have started taking in on the pledge admitted how double checking the back label has made significant changes on them as a mom and how they were able to protect their children from health risks.

“[As] a meticulous [and] curious mom, checking the back label helped me to verify the nutritional claims, compare brands, and choose which one offers the best buy for my family.”
- Mommy Erlyne Penaroyo from Makati City

“Double checking the back label of [the] products I shop from the groceries made me a more cautious and practical mom I am. It ensures my family’s safety most especially these times of pandemic. Dole’s All Natural Seasons #PledgeToDoubleCheck made me realize to double check all the things before purchasing and consuming.”
- Mommy Dyanna Cañas from Biñan City

“I always double check the back label of each items I [buy] especially for my kids because I always want to make it sure na healthy ang lagi kong binibili at binibigay sa kanila at may natural ingredients na makakatulong sa health nila. I am very conscious mom lalo na sa mga binibigay ko sa aking family, kaya super important sakin na i-double check lagi ang back label.”
- Mommy Kimberly Fajilan from Batangas City

“It’s good to be aware if a certain food is high in sugar, carbs or in sodium. [and] also for the calorie content and ingredients, sometimes ‘pag puro preservatives malalaman mo agad kasi hindi familiar ang ingredients.”
- Mommy Gec Cajucom from Parañaque City

  2. I'm guilty! Sa totoo lang kasi when I want to try other products sa presyo lang ako nagko-compare tapos check the expiration date, then usually popular brands lang din ang binibili ko yung may magagandang advertisements na healthy "daw" ang products nila but I never check the label. 🤦 Through this blog, narealized ko na dapat pala maging more conscious sa mga pagkaing binibili, hindi lang doon sa mura dahil pwedeng nailalagay ko at risk ang health ng family ko. Now, I #PledgeToDoubleCheck the labels, at mas pag-aaralan ko pa amg mga ingeridients na healthy para 100% ang alagang naibibigay ko sa pamilya ko. 🤗❤️

  14. dati po nung dalaga pa ako, basta nakabili lang ako ng foods or products na gusto ko or nasa trend masaya na ako, pero iba pala pag nagkaanak kana, nung nagkakasakit ang mga anak ko dun ko na realize na baka may mali sa mga pinapakain ko sa kanila, dun ko na naging habit ang pagbabasa ng labels at details ng bawat produktong binibili ko,tinatandaan ko pa ang names ng ingredients na hindi ko masyado naintindihan at pag uwi ko sa bahay sinesearch ko siya, opo naging ganyan po ako kaselan na mommy..at salamat po sa dagdag kaalaman sa pagbabasa ko ng topic na ito na the lesser ingredients they contain, the more natural they probably are, thankful din ako sa #PledgetoDoubleCheck movement na ito,mas maraming mommy ang magiging aware na from now on..im glad din na nadiscover ko itong all natural seasons drinks na ito,sa tuwing iniinom siya ng family ko,panatag ako na i only give them the best.

  16. It is very helpful to us na makita kung ano ang mga ginamit na sangkap sa isang products. Like me i always check the labels of the product and also the expiration kasi lagi ako nag stock ng pagkain sa bahay. I make sure na bago ako bumili ay titignan ko muna yung label ng product at baka some of the ingredients ay isa sa bawal kainin ng aking anak lalonat may allergy. Kayat doble ingat ako.

  17. so true Mommy Dette that checking the label is a must, for us to know what are the nutritions that are body will be absorbing from the food & drinks that we are going to intake. As a Mom I give a note on those manufacturers who give confusions on the consumers in a way of stating ingredients that are hard to understand, because I don't want to intake something that I don't know what made of, and as for my family's protection I always ensure that checking the label is always observed because it's our health that at risk.

  22. Thanks for the reminders mommy, tama po dapat talaga always check the label.

  24. I #PledgeToDoubleCheck from now on. Before ganyan ako, i checked labels and nutrition facts each buy but because i was always in a hurry dahil may anak akong naiwan sa bahay nakakalimutan ko na yun. It is really important that you know what you were giving to your family. Dole is a trusted brand even before, loving it until now. Thank you! ❤
